Jellycat TLC: How to Keep Your Cuddly Companion Fresh and Fabulous

We know how much you adore your Jellycat toys – they're not just stuffed toys, they're cherished friends and companions. Whether you picked up your plush pal from our friendly shop on Portobello High Street or ordered online, we want to help you keep it in tip-top shape as they can. sometimes get a bit grubby from all the cuddling, sucking, dragging around and general love they get.

So, let's dive into the world of Jellycat care and cleaning!

First Things First: Check the Label

Every Jellycat comes with its own set of care instructions sewn into the bottom. This little tag is your best friend when it comes to cleaning. Most Jellycats fall into two categories:

  • Hand wash only

  • Machine washable (usually up to 40°C)

Always check this label before you start your cleaning adventure!

Spot Cleaning: Your Go-To Method

For small stains or general freshening up:

  • Mix a tiny amount of mild detergent with warm water

  • Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently dab the affected area

  • Rinse with clean water

  • Pat dry with a towel

Remember, less is more when it comes to water and soap!

Hand Washing: When Spot Cleaning Isn't Enough

If your Jellycat needs a more thorough clean:

  • Fill a basin with cool water and a drop of mild detergent

  • Gently swish your Jellycat around, focusing on dirty areas

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean, cool water

  • Squeeze out excess water (don't wring!)

  • Pat dry with a towel

Machine Washing: The Last Resort

Some Jellycats can handle a gentle machine wash, but it's not ideal for maintaining their fluffiness. If you must:

  • Place your Jellycat in a mesh bag or pillowcase

  • Use a cool, gentle cycle with mild detergent

  • Skip the spin cycle if possible

Drying: Patience is Key

  • Never tumble dry your Jellycat

  • Air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight

  • For faster drying and to restore fluffiness, use a hairdryer on the cool setting

Fluff and Love

Once dry, give your Jellycat a gentle shake and massage its limbs back into shape. Brush the fur with your fingers to restore that signature Jellycat softness.

Pro Tip: For those extra-special Jellycats (we know you have a favourite!), consider picking up a backup. It's a lifesaver for those "I can't sleep without Bunny" moments when a wash is desperately needed or (as you'll see all over Facebook groups) when your kid has mislaid their favourite teddy.

At Cove, we're all about helping you to keep your special teddies in perfect cuddling condition. By following these simple steps, your Jellycat will stay fresh, soft, and ready for countless adventures.

Have any Jellycat care tips of your own? We'd love to hear them! Pop into our shop on Portobello High Street for a chat, or share your wisdom in the comments below.

Happy cleaning, and even happier cuddling!
