Portobello in the Summer 2024

As many of you will know our wee shop is based in the seaside town of Portobello which is just along the coast from Edinburgh city centre. We've got a fabulous, thriving community - loads of lovely shops, restaurants, bars and there is always something going on. With that in mind we've put together a little overview of what's happening this summer. If you're looking for a day out we're easy to get to, there are loads of buses to Porty, and there's lots going on! If you're visiting then please pop by the shop, we'd love to see you!

We've got Porty Pride on the 28th - 30th June. A celebration of LGBTQ+ people:

Get ready for a vibrant, joyful celebration of love, self-expression and community at Porty Pride 2024! This year's festivities are packed with an incredible assortment of events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

From the highly anticipated Porty Pride Ball, where you can dance the night away, to the lively Porty Prom Dog Walk (aka the fabulous Pride march!), there's something for all ages and interests. Immerse yourself in queer film at the Film Night, get your groove on at dance parties, lift your voice at singing events, flex your creative muscles at crafting workshops, and make a splash at swimming meetups.

For those seeking thought-provoking perspectives, don't miss the engaging political discussions and literary events featuring queer authors and their works. And keep your eyes peeled for delightful surprises - hidden bouquets of flowers and books celebrating queer voices will be scattered around Portobello for lucky finders to take home!

With such an incredible array of happenings, Porty Pride 2024 is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration bursting with energy, self-expression, and love. Get ready to experience the vibrant spirit of this welcoming community at its most joyous!

The Porty Sea Rising Festival:

Get ready for an incredible celebration of music, the environment, and coastal community spirit! On June 22nd, 2024, Porty Community Energy is hosting the free Sea Rising Festival right on our picturesque Portobello promenade and beach from 1-6pm.

Timed perfectly with the summer solstice full moon and high tides, this vibrant event aims to raise awareness about the impacts of rising sea levels on coastal areas like Portobello. What better way to connect with the power of the ocean than by joining the chorus of voices and dancers at the unique Selkies Sea Stage, where musicians will perform with the waves lapping at your ankles!

But the fun doesn't stop there. On dry land, the Landlubbers Stage will keep the party going with rousing performances by local bands guaranteed to have you joining in the ceilidh dancing. Explore the makers market bursting with locally-made goods, get hands-on at the arts and crafts activities, and check out the bike demos.

With family-friendly fun, incredible live music, engaging environmental stalls and workshops, and special artist commissions, the Sea Rising Festival is an unmissable event. Join this joyful gathering as the community comes together to celebrate coastal culture while raising awareness of the impacts of climate change.

They also have amazing Bring Make and Do crafting sessions with teas and coffeess on Friday mornings from 10.30 for anyone who enjoys a bit of crafting with some company.
